I’m Jana Appleyard and I live with my donkeys and cats on Hvar island, Croatia where I teach yoga retreats and have a small B&B. I met my first donkey Pano in 2013. He and his friends have led me to discover even more about myself and our journey together has become part of my spiritual practice.

Due to last-minute cancellations again we are urgently looking for volunteers to help us throughout August. You need to be able to work in the heat as it’s very hot here. Remember the sweet little abandoned baby, we found a few days ago? We have been feeding her around the clock with formula milk ….but look who else has been helping us. That’s right mamma Gracie! Yesterday, as my volunteers were walking back from the beach, they found abandoned at the bottom of the village, two newborn baby kittens one was already dead some disgusting human had torn these babies from their mother as soon as she had given birth and dumped them to die. All I can say is people are sick and I will wait for karma to come and get them. When everyone is off to the beach on the beautiful island of hvar, this is what I’m doing…. watching over the little kittens who need round the clock care. Mama Gracie needs feeding every few hours especially as a young mother with the first litter of seven babies. I also have seven kittens under the age of five weeks in so again they need feeding frequently on top of all the other animals. This is a lot of extra cost and extra work. This morning we said goodbye to dear Max. I knew when I took him that he had terminal cancer but I wanted to give him the best life I could in his remaining months. He had the most wonderful personality and was a pleasure to be with.
